A Holy Militia

Ears were tuned and all eyes were fixed on the Holy Militia of young people poised to overthrow the government of doubt, insecurity and fear. Lead by the Pathfinder colour guard, the the Trailblazers marched into the sanctuary of the 31^st Street SDA Church to take charge of the 2006 Pathfinders Day Program. For many this was a brand new experience and for others dressed in uniform and Sabbath civilian clothing, Pathfinder Day 2006 was definitely a memorable occasion. Under the direction of Pathfinder Leaders Djames Gedeon and Paul Williamson, the 31^st Street Trailblazers Pathfinder Club engaged each pathfinder member in nearly every aspect of the events for the day. The days programs started with Sabbath School where the Pathfinders took the lead in ministering in song service, scripture reading and response, mission report and special music. The general lesson study was facilitated by directors Gedeon and Williamson.

If the stage had not been already blazing with the these young people performing each of their assigned responsibilities with precision and pride, then it was the divine worship service that would completely engulf the building with the fire of young people in service for God. Three of the clubs more experienced members, Janeen Williamson, Rowena Thomas and Nicholas Thomas demonstrated their leadership abilities through delivery of the Sabbath Sermon messages in their own unique and creative way.

Pathfinders are a worldwide organization of young people sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, though young people of any religious persuasion, or none at all, are welcome and encouraged to join the organization

Pathfinders offer a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:

· Camping & camping/survival skills

· Grade appropriate leadership training

· Activities promoting community pride & involvement through outreach activities such as helping in downtown soup kitchens, collecting food for the disadvantaged, cleaning & maintaining city and county parks, visiting and encouraging the elderly, and MANY more

· Interactive training in a variety of recreational, artistic, nature, conservation, vocational, and outreach areas, with awards (honors) given for successful completion of the interactive training modules

· Personal care and encouragement by a caring staff member!

Knowing that less than one year ago, 31^st Street didn’t even have an active Pathfinder Club, it was quite an accomplishment to have more than 20 young people enrolled, serving, enjoying campouts, learning honors and securing a better understanding of God’s word remarked Pastor Eric Penick. God definitely had a plan and He raised both young people and not so young people to accomplish it in record time.
